“Happy birthday, Sara!”  Deacon tells his sister.

She walks past and punches him in the arm as she thanks him.  His niece and nephew gasp and start giggling because of their mother punching Deacon.  She goes on to thank him also for being punctual as usual.

“Anytime.”

The sound of clambering dishes being opened and closed fills the air as the family dishes up their plates to eat.  The usual family catch up discussion begins when Frank asks Tom, Sara’s husband, how work is going.

His only answer is, “It’s work” and goes back to eating.

Frank then asks Sara what the kids have been up to.  She tells him they have just been being little monsters, destroying their house as usual.  Frank then asks Deacon how work is going.  Deacon tells him that it doesn’t look like the beer business is going anywhere,

“People are still drinking the stuff, and a lot of it.”

Frank laughs.  Judy, is busy trying to get the kids to eat and to keep them entertained.  She is much too preoccupied to care about anything else going on.  Frank then asks Deacon if after dinner he will go outside and help him figure out how they are going to build the new pergola for his mom.

After dinner both Deacon and his father go outside to discuss the project that Judy has set forth for them.  They keep being interrupted by the jets flying overhead, from the nearby Air Force base.  The jets are so loud one cannot hear oneself think, let alone hear what someone else is saying.

“Don’t you ever get sick of listening to that,” Deacon asks Frank.

His dad tells him that for as long as they have lived there he just tunes them out.  He then reminds Deacon that he knows what it is like as Deacon was raised in this house.  Deacon counters as he informs frank that it is the one thing he doesn’t miss about living here.  Frank clears his throat and asks Deacon how he is holding up.  Deacon tells him that he is fine.  Then with a tear rolling down his cheek he tells him that he really misses her.  His dad puts his arm around him and tells him that he is sorry and that they all miss her.  Deacon goes on to tell him that Greg and Lana, mostly Lana, are trying to set him up with Lana’s friend but he just is not ready to start dating again.  His dad tells him that only he will know when he is ready.
