The next thing Deacon hears is his alarm going off. He wakes up exhausted from sleeping on the couch. He switches on the lamp on the end table. Picking up the calendar, he writes in one hundred and thirty seven on today's date. Hurrying through the shower he then leaves for work. As he arrives at the plant, a meeting is called. The drivers are told they will be going out in pairs.
Deacon looks over at Trent, "You might as well come with me!"
They climb into Deacon's semi to leave for shoreline. The long drive provides plenty of time to think.
Trent begins to speak, to break the awkward silence. He tells Deacon that the last time he had talked to his wife was two days ago. "She told me they were not letting anybody go home. There were a lot of government people in suits, and a lot of military personnel at the hospital. I haven't heard from hear since."
Deacon gets uncomfortable as he does not know how to comfort him. They get about ten miles outside of shoreline before Deacon's phone rings. It is their boss.
"Get turned around and head home, there is some crazy shit going on back here."
After ending the call, Deacon pulls off at the first exit and starts towards home.
