Greg explains to Deacon, “The government is claiming these
things haven’t left the base but when Lana was on the phone with her brother, from
what she heard on the phone, we think that they came in from the civilian side. The media is saying that these things are
everywhere. The news is also saying,
when those who had been injured in the initial attack went to the hospital,
they passed away two days later from infection.
The dead then immediately woke up very hungry and not alive. They have been attacking everyone they come
in contact with. Emergency personnel
like fire fighters, hospital staff, police officers and military have been hit
the hardest.”
Deacon advises them that three of them should stay together,
but that he needs to go to his parents. They
agree to stay together, and that Deacons house will be a safer place. Gathering guns and load up in Deacons truck. Same as when he left the plant, he leaves a
string of thick clouds of black smoke every time he smashes down on the gas
pedal with his foot. As they drive, they
are amazed at how tranquil the neighborhoods appear. All three quietly process their situation and
ponder how eerie it is that there is not a single person moving around.
Arriving at Deacon’s parent’s house, they enter to find it
quiet. Deacon calls for his parents, runs
upstairs, and finds that the bedrooms are a mess. It appears random items were just thrown everywhere
as if someone had been searching for something in particular. Deacon cannot find any sign of his family
within the house.
"Deacon come look at this," Lana calls to him.
Deacon hurries down the stairs to the kitchen to find an envelope
with his name on the outside of it. Deacon tears it open to find a hand written
letter.
