Greg continues to drive until he thinks that they are safe, and
then pulls the truck over. There is no
sign of Deacon. Just then Deacon climbs
out of the vent hole.
“Why the hell did you stop,” Deacon asks as he climbs down
on to the fender, then jumps to the ground.
Greg gives him a big hug, explaining that he thought he had
lost him. Deacon tells him that he just needed
a safer place to ride as he recalls his fall into the trailer. He then asks Greg, if he noticed he had
picked up some hitch hikers while they were getting their things.
Greg smiles and tells him, “Ya, I’ve seen them. Now let’s get somewhere safe, this time you
drive.”
They get in the truck, and leave for Deacon’s house. Reaching Deacon’s, he backs into the driveway
up to the garage. The group unloads the
truck and trailer into the garage.
Deacon asks Lana to go help Alicia get her and Jeff set up in one of the
spare bedrooms. He asks Jeff and Greg to
help him board up all the windows.
“We can’t just go to the lumber yard anymore!”
Deacon points to the opposite wall in the garage where several sheets of plywood lean up against it,
