It is evident by the tone in his father’s voice that he is skirting
around the fact that Jayce is thirty-six years old and that he does not want
him moving back into their house.
“Don’t worry, Dad, I’m going to get my own place.”
His dad begins back-pedaling to cover up his intentions. Irritated by the unforeseen direction the conversation
is going, Jayce tells his mother that he will call her “tomorrow”. He hangs up the phone, and tosses it back onto
the passenger’s seat.
The phone rings as he pulls into his apartment complex.
“What?” Jayce answers.
“Where are you?” The
voice asks excitedly.
“Ty, look out the window.”
Jayce peers up at his apartment balcony, the blinds are
pulled back and then the phone hangs up.
He shakes his head as he grabs his things out of the back seat. There is no telling what his roommates, Ty and
Ben, have planned. He mumbles to himself
that they must make the strangest trio, but there is not anybody else in the army
he would rather have running point on his unit.
He begins to climb the stairs to his apartment.
As he opens the door, he is greeted by Ty. “Granger, so what did the Colonel want?”
“I needed to talk to him about something.”
“Mission?”
“No. We’ll talk about
it, later.”
