“Captain Granger, Sir, the Colonel is expecting you.”
“Thank you, Tracy.”
She casually glances down at the envelope. He looks at the name tag on the door, it
reads Colonel Stanly Wallace. She
invites him to have a seat while he waits.
He graciously accepts her invitation.
Several minutes pass before the door opens. Tracy and Jayce immediately stand and salute
the Colonel. Only after abiding protocol,
the Colonel warmly greets him with a hand shake.
“Jayce.” The Colonel
states as he firmly grasps Jayce’s forearm with his free hand.
“Stan.” Jayce smiles
back.
Stan motions toward the open door leading inside his office.
Jayce enters the room and looks around
at all of the commendations and pictures of dignitaries from around the
globe. Two flags stand tall behind the Colonel’s
desk, setback at each corner. One is the
flag of the United States of America and the other the symbol of the Army. Once the door is closed, both men dispense
with the small talk. Jayce stays
standing until Stan makes it to his seat behind his desk.
“So, why did you request to see me?” The Colonel asks.
Jayce takes a seat in one of the two chairs and then slides it
closer to the front of the desk. Without
a word, Jayce sets the envelope on the desk tapping the closest corner to him and
then pushes it with his index finger across to the Colonel. Jayce pulls his hand back as he sits up straighter
in the chair.
